NEW YORK – This street does have a name — U2 Way.
Part of Manhattan's West 53rd Street was temporarily
renamed after the veteran Irish rockers Tuesday.
Scores of fans cheered from behind barricades as Mayor
Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine
Quinn presented the band's four members with street
signs bearing the name.
Frontman Bono said U2 was honored to join Manhattan's
musical map, which also features Duke Ellington Boulevard
and Joey Ramone Place.
The name change coincides with the release of U2's latest CD,
"No Line on the Horizon." It also celebrates the group's
weeklong gig on CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman."
The Dublin-based band has sold tens of millions of records
and become known for advocating for social justice.
